The Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) has announced a significant collaboration with Google Public Sector, aiming to integrate Google Cloud's artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing capabilities into its research operations. This initiative seeks to accelerate innovative research, expand computing capacity, and empower faculty with AI tools to streamline various processes, including grant management.
Dr Nagi Naganathan, President of Oregon Tech, emphasized that this partnership reflects the university's commitment to innovation. He noted that while faculty and students are actively engaged in numerous applied research projects, the limitations of current infrastructure have hindered their ability to align with new opportunities. "This collaborative effort will help connect our exceptional researchers with additional opportunities and accelerate our ability to drive innovation that leads to real-world solutions," he stated.
Under this collaboration, Oregon Tech researchers will gain access to cutting-edge Google Cloud resources, including graphics processing units (GPUs), tensor processing units (TPUs), and specialized datasets. These tools will be instrumental in advancing research in critical areas such as life sciences, climate change, robotics, and chip design.
The integration of AI tools is particularly aimed at transforming the grant management process, a task that is often cumbersome for many academic institutions. Dr Abdy Afjeh, Senior Vice Provost for Research at Oregon Tech, noted that automating repetitive tasks will allow the research team to focus more on supporting faculty and students. "By streamlining these processes, we can enhance the development of proposals and foster collaborations that yield impactful research," he explained.

Google Public Sector's Reymund Dumlao highlighted the importance of this partnership in transforming educational strategies.
