Meta Signs Solar PPA with Origis Energy in Texas

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Origis Energy to procure power from the Greyhound A Solar project in West Odessa, Texas. This solar facility is expected to achieve commercial operations by mid-2026 and will contribute to Meta's commitment to match 100% of its electricity use with clean energy to support its data center operations.

The Greyhound A Solar project has a capacity of 303 megawatts direct current (MWdc), although the specific amount of power that Meta will offtake has not been disclosed. This agreement is part of a larger energy infrastructure initiative in West Texas, which includes a total of 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar capacity, half of which is already operational, while the remainder is anticipated to come online by 2026.

Vikas Anand, CEO of Origis Energy, expressed pride in partnering with Meta, stating, "This agreement is a testament to Meta's leadership and their unprecedented US investments. We are proud to support their growth trajectory and to partner with them in building competitive and enduring American energy infrastructure.".

Meta's engagement in Texas is not new; the company has been actively signing multiple PPAs over the past year to decarbonize its operations. In 2025, Meta signed agreements with various developers, including NextEra Energy, for up to 2.5 GW of power across different energy markets in Texas. This includes a significant 600 MW PPA with Engie North America for the Swenson Ranch Solar project.

The company's expansion in Texas is also marked by the construction of a new 1 GW data center in El Paso, with an investment of approximately $1.5 billion for the first phase of development. This facility will be Meta's third data center campus in Texas, joining existing sites in Fort Worth and Temple.

The strategic move to secure renewable energy sources aligns with Meta's broader sustainability goals, as the company aims to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance its operational efficiency.
