Singer D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, was arrested on suspicion of murder in relation to the case of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a 14-year-old girl whose decomposed body was discovered in his Tesla. The arrest took place on Thursday in Hollywood, with Burke being held without bail as the Los Angeles Police Department announced the case would be presented to the district attorney's office for review.
Celeste was reported missing from Lake Elsinore, California, in early 2024, sparking ongoing concerns for her well-being. Her body was ultimately found on September 8, 2025, in a black cadaver bag inside Burke's vehicle, which had been impounded from a tow yard after being abandoned in the Hollywood Hills. The discovery was particularly tragic, coming just a day after what would have been her 15th birthday.
Investigators noted that the body was in a state of severe decomposition, indicating that Celeste had been dead for several weeks prior to the discovery. The medical examiner's office has yet to release a definitive cause of death, citing ongoing investigations. Reports indicate that the body was severely dismembered, with body parts found in multiple bags within the car.
Burke's attorneys released a statement asserting their client's innocence, emphasizing that no formal charges had yet been filed against him. They claimed that the evidence would ultimately exonerate him, stating, "David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death." The legal team also pointed out that there had been no indictment returned by any grand jury in the case.
The singer has garnered significant attention in the music industry, particularly after the success of his debut album, "Withered," which featured themes of death and remembrance. He gained popularity among Generation Z audiences, particularly for his hit song "Romantic Homicide." The album charted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and has amassed over 521 million streams on Spotify.
Prior to his arrest, D4vd had been on a national tour promoting his album. However, the tour was canceled amid the investigation following the discovery of Celeste's body. Notably, the vehicle in which her remains were found had been parked on Bluebird Avenue since late July, coinciding with the beginning of Burke's tour.
Authorities have been tight-lipped about the specifics of the investigation, and while Burke's family has resisted subpoenas related to the grand jury proceedings, the investigation has revealed troubling details about what was found inside the Tesla. His family’s objections to the subpoenas indicate the seriousness of the inquiry into Burke's involvement in the case.
As the investigation unfolds, many questions remain regarding the circumstances surrounding Celeste's death, including how she ended up in Burke's vehicle and the nature of their relationship, if any. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office will review the evidence presented to determine whether charges will be filed against the singer.
This tragic case highlights ongoing concerns about missing persons and violence against minors, with the community seeking justice for Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
The search for answers continues as both the legal proceedings and community reactions develop in the coming days.
